Heads Up for Benjamin Button

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button – 4.5 (out of five) afro picks!

There is only one word to describe this film. BEAUTIFUL!

This film is based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzergerald about a young boy, Benjamin, who is born with the physical features and maladies of an old man yet instead of dying at birth slowly begins to "age in reverse" as he gets younger and younger as the years go by. Now this may sound a little "hooky" at first glance--I know I know. But this story is told with a wonderful rhythm and coupled with a beautifully written screenplay, the seductic backdrop of New Orleans (where the bulk of the picture is filmed), a luscious background musical score, and THE PURE, UNDENIABLE, SEXINESS which is Brad Pitt. This film is a glutonous feast to tease all of your senses! lol And did I say again how utterly sexy Brad Pitt is in this film?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!? There is a God..............(but I digress---sisters you will feel me on this one trust ;) )

But now back to the film. Both Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett give wonderful performances in the film as destined lovers. But the true scene stealer for this one can be no one other than the number one YBF chick Taraji P. Henson. I must say I was pleasantly pleased and proud with how much growth and talent Taraji shows in the role as Benjamin's adoptive mother. She plays this role and really showcases her talent in this one. Looking for even greater things to come from Taraji---- sister is on a roll.

Again this story was beautifully told and I think it will definitely be a strong contender come award show time for this screenplay and musical score. Both are just beautifully done. This film is filled with imagery and symbols so keep yourself "open" so you don't miss any of them throughout. Plus as the new year turns who could resist such a touching story about life and the moments that we sometimes fail to savor in the rush and hustle of growing and growing older. This one is just what you need to get centered on the important things as you start your year anew.I took off one- half afro pick only for the length of this one.

At a solid 2 hours and 50 minutes, it is about the longest movie I have seen in awhile. But dont take this as too much of a negative. The story does not drag and it is so scintillating it will draw you in and seduce you before you know it. Take this one in on a lazy afternoon. Its worth it!Peace.
